BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After working as an occupational therapist in the private sector for 12 years, Deek Cunningham decided it was time to return to his alma mater, The University of Alabama at Birmingham, to teach in the Department of Occupational Therapy in the School of Health Professions.

“One of my goals was to teach in the OT program,” said Cunningham, M.S., OTR/L, ATP, “I always knew, however, I needed more clinical experience to bring to the table.”

Over the years, Cunningham guest lectured at UAB and the University of South Alabama and worked with students during their three-months of fieldwork. As an assistant professor, Cunningham will teach mental health classes as well as co-teach groups and communities class. (more…)

This introductory hands-on workshop is designed for therapists whose primary focus is on the pediatric patient population.  Myofascial Release will be presented for the evaluation and treatment of head injuries, cerebral palsy, birth trauma, scoliosis, movement dysfunction, neurological dysfunction, trauma, pain and headaches.

ALOTA is now authorized to assign AOTA CEUs for all LIVE (face-to-face) continuing education provided by our organization! This will help improve our organization by making our course offerings more appealing to out-of-state therapists/attendees and nationally recognized clinicians who may be interested in presenting at our conferences! Fall Conference 2010 was another successful event for ALOTA. With nearly 200 attendees, extremely informative presentations providing for over 12 contact hours, and networking among the excellent professionals from our state, one could not ask for a better way to spend this weekend. If you were unable to attend this year, you were missing out and should keep your September calendar open for next year’s conference. Presentation slides requested and the updated policies and bylaws will be posted as I receive them under the Forums tab. You must have/create a user log-in to view these items.
